Fatt_matt
So Kayla is having issues with her ASUS Notebook. she ended up with some malware through a fake flash player update which I had since fixed myself. however now when she attempts to put an URL in any of her web browsers nothing happens, searches do nothing either. I can not for the life of me figure out what is wrong with it.
wabuf
Just be careful what you type in, it sounds like her browser was at very least hijacked. Worst case scenario, they blocked all outgoing web port (HTTP) communications and opened up all kinds of other ones to capture keystrokes and personal information. Hoping it's just a preliminary hijack. First off, what OS and browser? Secondly, turn off WiFi ASAP and depending on your answer, there are several things you could do... Easiest method is to reinstall OS altogether. Can be done within an hour. EDIT: Off-Topic Fun Fact: This is my 1,111th post!
Coastercraze
Smitfraudfix might help? http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php Download Firefox or alternative browser to a thumbstick and install it on her laptop.
Fatt_matt
-sorry forgot I posted this- Dammit I was hoping that wasn't it but it seems to be the only thing it can be. Windows 7 sp1 Firefox She appears to have lost her win7 restore disc somehow. I'll try stroh's method first. EDIT my antivirus is adamantly blocking Smitfraudfix, false positive? Coastercraze
Tis false positive. Haven't used it on 64 bit version, but 32 bit should do fine. Run as admin of course. Don't be afraid, it'll kill your desktop background and such. Let it run its course and when it's done it'll give you a notepad of crap.
