Mythil
So, I talked to him and calmed him down relatively. What he said was in a fit of rage and confusion. He feels hurt and betrayed that the people on this server talked bad about him and his family. He's still in a stage of life where he isn't completely mature and finds offense in people talking bad about his family. While the statement about his father and me calling him slightly derp was meant to be lighthearted, it was an off color joke. I have apologized to him and he has forgiven me, but is still put off by all this. I completely understand his view point, because he thinks we were talking behind his back and no joking. He says he is not mad at the server, but at the people who hurt him unintentionally, so I think we owe him an apology. I would say that he overreacted in yelling veiled death threats, but he young and not fully mature. It was reminiscent of the time Jman got really pissed at us and shouted stuff, but retook everything after he calmed down. A permanent ban is a little harsh in this case, but a ban for a week or so seems reasonable in my eyes.
wabuf
We have our age limit set at 13 for many reasons. It's the mean age of maturity among most cultures and assumes personal responsibility--at very least. This is not a kid's server, we take these threats extremely seriously with no restraint. Members who wish to get serious with us will get it right back with an appropriate consequence. Especially because he may still be developing, he needs to learn that acting out extremely will render extreme consequences. He has been an issue for other reasons ever since he joined. He has been banned two or three times that I know of off the top of my head. It's for his own good.
Mythil
So wait a couple of years? Lol In either case, toxins says he is still a bit angry at how he and his family were insulted and asks you to apologize.
wabuf
That would be teaching him that 'permanent' means 'a couple years'... really not the message I want to send. EDIT: He'll never be able to read any of this anyway; He's under a high-priority, domain-wide ban.
Mythil
Very true. I get the feeling that toxins has "family honor" he has to uphold, which is completely understandable. My question is whether or not an apology should be given? Your thoughts?
wabuf
Tell him, "Sorry we didn't ban you sooner".
Mythil
...that's kind of unprofessional? He says this: "Tell him he also should expect external conciquences when others are cyber bullies and almost fell like that wabuf should not be a admin if he acts like this online this can come with more serious conciquences if not taken seriously either minecraft admin taken away or not talk about others on a public Visio site without knowing there reaction"
Mythil
In all regards, I feel like this situation was badly handled by both parties, me included. i don't know about your culture, but when someone is offended, the offender usually apologizes, including the business world. If your boss insults you, would you not retaliate and ask for apology? In this case, it's almost like broadcasting your opinion on the web about a certain person behind their back, which is rather unkind.
wabuf
Stop talking to him. He is a threat, regardless. I will delete this thread if it continues. He made this threat on our server which we kindly provide out of our own hard-earned money. Our server, our terms. Bringing culture, norms and mixed-interpretations into this situation is futile. The Chunk Republic is no longer his culture. It's no longer about acceptance or honor at this point. YouTube's policy strongly echos this same idea. That could have been a real problem. And thanks for understanding Mythil, even if you don't agree. I've personally dealt with so many external appeal pleas and junk to know that this is definitely the right way to handle a repeat offender.
