Also, the creator said this on the topic of giving out the files for a server:

No, at least for now. But let me explain why.

We use custom builds of craftbukkit that requires detailed setup. Even if I share all of the various configuration files, if we make a single tweak on the main server it would need to be done by all servers. This isn't out of the question down the road, but for the initial release it makes sense that we control all the plugin files so we can easily do hotfixes as we find bugs we don't catch in initial testing. This isn't a single plugin, this is about 8 plugins all interacting. We do a modular approach to our development so our plugins can be used across all our servers.

Since we use a centralized database for the loot tables and player data, each server would need to connect to this database and be able to modify it. This would mean exposing the database to anyone who opts to be an admin. This means they could delete player files, modify player inventories, or even full out corrupt the database. We don't have an SQL engineer on staff and I do not have the database coded to stop malicious intent by a user connecting with a whitelisted IP. In the future, we can look at allowing folks to setup their own databases on their private servers, but I would like to get a few weeks into the official release before I do this.

I know that my current admin team is very hands off. Having managed HCFactions, I have faith my admins will not be handing out items to players in the game. If admins end up giving items to their friends, it will ruin the whole game. Part of the fun is first learning to survive, then learning to get the equipment you need, then exploring to find the best equipment up north. Even then, the loot is random, so it could take time to get some of the most rare weapons in the game.

Hopefully that satisfies why we are being very controlling of the experience right now. There are already hundreds of hours of development time put into this mod, we are proud of it, and we want players to experience it without the hassals of bad admins, abuse, or running on subpar servers (we will run only the best).

BS!

Is he saying that he won't give his precious mod the public? I understand he put a lot of work in to this mod...

but he's in it for the money :(

good excuses but allowing people to pay 25$ is outrageous.....

even though you have a choice to say no he'll have hundreds of people paying $25 D:

......

game play is going to be epic and I look forward too it.

Now all he has to do is get a beta going and "delay" the beta a bit longer pockets full of money

Well played

He has a right to do all of this but I don't like it 1 bit

LOL, you don't know who this guy is lol. He runs the HC Factions server, a hardcore PvP server that is pretty famous and well respected. He says he will not release the mod just yet because of possible hacking or whatever until he has it properly packaged.

Deleting players would probably be bad lol.

The plan is to have around 4 servers that have 100 person capacity each, with NO LAG. That kind of server costs a ton of money. I mean look at Zoa's server: can barely hold 4 people without crashing and fantastical lag fests.

The Chunk Republic's server is pretty good, but from what I heard, I think he plans to build the servers himself, meaning thousands of dollars. In that case, I don't mind him holding a kickstarter.

lol what are you talking about? i've easily ran an 8 man UH server, and the only problem was spawning, since the game had to create (and load) a new spawnpoint, 8 times (which would slow down almost any computer)
