The Survival Games

I have been thinking, and i thought it would be fun if we could do some sort of SG event on some set day of the week. much like UHS this would be a whitelisted event, but it would be a little more involved;

~it would feature a new map each week, some of which could be built on the server as a community project or something

~you would be able to spectate after death, and give players an item from a restricted list (no giving out enchanted diamond swords)

i'd like to hear what you guys think about this idea and i hope we are able to get this to work, i think it could be a really fun server activity

Yeah, if you want a custom map, just let me know the details and provide me with a copy of the map. It doesn't take a whole lot for me to stop and swap setups. It takes a matter of seconds, under normal circumstances.

I had suggested Wednesday nights, in-game. Just a random night which I know I can be present for. Thoughts?

yeah i like the multiple games in a night type thing, especially since most wont be able to make it at the exact starting time. and i think we should have spare white listed worlds on the server for people to biuld in

though if that doesnt work then it will just be maps made by one perosn, and not multiple

The only problem is the number of players. In total, we may have less than 20 active players at any week, in which most of don't want to play other games, or show disinterest in it. With that in mind at any time only half can probably make it due to personal life or time zone.

In order for this to work, you need more willing players. Othwise, you will have four guys sitting around, which is no fun at all.

Situational would be a cool way to schedule. Happens every now and then where a few people get on, then a bunch of people get on and there's 12-15. It would be interesting to start it up on the spot. Caveats of this method would be a couple of unwilling people who are using the server for other things at that point in time.

If you can get that many players. Not to be a downer, but situational is kind of a bad idea. When we talk about random times and random people get on, we most of the time have less than 5 players on at a time. Obviously, the size of our server is a pretty good size, so if we can get up to 10 people on at random times, that would be optimal. In other words, we need to grow our player base if we want cool events and stuff to happen.

hmmm I've been wondering if we could advertise? Wabuf I'm going to wait for your permission to post anything, but I'm sure I can bring a few people in with my you tube video me and nubs are almost finished with. We are hoping to get at least 200 views which may bring up to 10 new members I hope. We're going to attempt and find 13 and up kids but I'll doubt that would happen. This can bring randoms to the server trolls griefers etc. But since it's the survival games it's not like we have to talk to them? And they can also stay non members or is that harsh.

IDK ideas and constructive criticism.

I'd never thought I'd say this but I'd miss a small server o 3 o

Thanks!

Events and small servers are two things that can't really exist together. I found that out trying to pull UH together along with a crapton of other ideas that I had. Everything fell flat, while UH somewhat succeeded but not really, aka 5 games in 5 months.

To succeed with events we need the aforementioned players and we need to keep the interest level high. You want people coming back to the server for regular play and events. For the server, I did a couple of random events, but no one really participated. If you can tie the events and the server together, then we have business. Example is that the winners of events get bonuses for the server like winning a diamond block or something. While this may piss off some, we should have enough players with enough interest to keep playing those events.

As for advertising, word of mouth will only get you so far. YouTube videos of lulz on the server and events attract people. They see that the environments nice and will stay. So far our greeting committee is crap. In regards to administration, wabuf is a friendly dude but can't be on at all times. Right now, this server is like a friends only server. The reason i say that is because not everyone will help/talk to everyone. There has no real cooperative effort to build anything likt close to spawn or building a town. We also need a system that runs smoothly too. Right now, no one reads the forum lol, so we have to accept that. Complicated things do not help at all.

So basically what I propose to help the server grow easily is to post more videos and advertise to your fan base, subscribers and stuff. Advertisements on forums might not be the best idea, but it will help for sure.

Additionally, I think that we need to get rid of iconomy. No one uses it, but we can run a poll to see everyone's opinion.

Mods and admins need creative again. It helps to fly around to get to places quicker, especially if everyone is offline. Also, cool buildings on a grand scale always impresses people, making them want to stay. /tp needs to be back too, at least for mods. It was pretty dang hard to moderate without creative I have admit.

Some good ideas, yes. The economy stays though. Too many people are waiting for it to come back .. and it's currently making a good come-back. If we continue to simplify and build the economy, people will come, build impressive things (because they can more easily buy than mine) and attract more folks. Emphasizing the importance of the currency and not making light of it, will make it more of an accomplishment to attain.

Connecting events with the economy is another good option. A solution for, "While this may piss off some..." is make more winners. Make first place ($1000 CRB), runner-up ($500) and third place ($250) prizes; more accomplished feeling.

In regards to the Moderator restrictions, I was holding off until I found a flight-only plugin. You had the compass, /jumpto and /thru commands (imo, better than flight) and could use anyone's home .. not sure if you knew that. Whoops. xD

I don't think that people should win in-game money for winning.

I think that people should just win houses like the one Mythil created, or just 1 big one that you can live in if you win, and then the next persons that win can live in the house instead of you.

The reason why I think that we shouldn't win money, is because if it's free for all games, then people can make deals about the winning. For example Lars, DaK and I, we could make a deal sbout not killing eachother, because then we'll be the 3 winners in the end, and we get all the money.

But this is just my opinion about it :3

There is a simple solution to the prizes for me so that it would be more fair (teams and free for all) because as jonas said what he lars and DaK could do, but then also what mythil said is that everybody might want to team against them, but they could also trick them into thinking that they were apart of their alliance until the very end. So for prizes i think this makes it the most fair.

Team Winnings:

If a team wins then what they would get is a spot on the "Wall of Winners" and the prize agreed on before hand.

At the end if their is 1 left on a team and that person clutched it for his team, his whole team would be on the wall and get the prize, but there would also be a prize for the last person alive on the winning team. Now how would that work if there were multiple people left on the winning team? They would battle it out and the winner of that would have the same prize as a team, but also a little extra like a house in the "Winners Village" (only people that won this would get to go there?) and maybe sime CRBs? Because i would like to see teams turn on each other to win the " UH Ultimite Prize" and there would be no sharing of the prizes like say if somebody won the ultimite prize that person could not share the prize with anybody.

Free For All Winnings:

They would be the same as the team winnings pretty much, but its a free for all so if there are alliances they would be broken up eventually ( Only the winner of this game type would have their name on the wall of winners no alliance members allowed)

Now i do hope that i explained this well enough for everybody to understand and i hope this will help solve some of the prize winning disscussion.

Yep, just like we had yesterday. When you die, you respawn and can re-enter the game once a winner is declared in the current game. One way to make it better: construct the spawn on top of the arena on a glass surface so the people who died (or have yet to join) get a top-down view of the game in progress. Neon knows how to set everything up, so he's an operator on these map configurations.
