Seanlawson95
Hey! I've recently been trying to connect my TV to my laptop using a HDMI but it isn't working. It has worked in the past because I have streamed TV shows on my laptop through to my tv Basically what happens is that when i plug in the HDMI my Laptop screen goes black (indicating that its connected i guess) but the TV wont pick up the signal from the laptop I've checked that the tv is on the right input and i've also tried changing the cable to a different socket but nothing seems to be working The specs for my laptop are: Laptop: Compaq Presario CQ-60 Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8200M G Processors: AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-72 Sound Card: Nvidia High-Def Audio One HDMI Slot The Specs for the TV are: Logik 26" HD Ready 1080p Digital LCD TV 3 HDMI Slots I also found this number which might be helpful: L26DIGB11 I hope this is enough information to get this problem resolved but if not just ask
wabuf
Windows lappy, hmm .. I would first attempt to locate a function or 'fn' key on your keyboard. Then locate an input key with an icon resembling a monitor, likely hanging out around your F-keys. If you've found both of them, go ahead and execute both as a key combination: fn+source(input). Then wait a moment and if nothing has changed, try again... Most laptops have 3 display modes (Mac, Windows & Linux alike): Laptop Display only Laptop Display and External Display External Display only If none of the above has worked, enter your NVIDIA control panel settings and browse around for external display settings. Toggle some stuff and then try attaching your HDMI cable. I have never had a laptop that has worked 100% perfectly every time. Sometimes you have to finagle configurations and junk to get it to work. Seanlawson95
I'll try that and keep you posted Thanks
Seanlawson95
It's definitely not a Laptop problem, when i connect the HDMI it says that the TV is Connected but when I try to change the display to two monitors nothing comes out onto the TV, it's like the TV doesn't pick up the laptop but the laptop picks up the TV, I've tried fiddling with the settings in the nvidia control panel but to no avail
wabuf
Yeah, definitely sounds like a problem with the TV. Do you have any other TVs with HDMI ports around? Possibly try to further diagnose by plugging into those.
Seanlawson95
The tv has no problem connecting to my xbox so i'm thinking it has to have something to do with my screen resolution of my laptop. I'll try on my tv in th living room tomorrow and i'll also try messing about with the screen res
Coastercraze
Type "Display" in your start menu. Click on "Screen Resolution" Click on "Detect" (Should show 2 monitors) - Select the second monitor and crank the resolution up. You can tick the box to make it your main display (at least in Windows 7). If all else fails, should be some settings in the Nvidia control panel for external displays. (ATI person here sorry, however I do have a netbook with Nvidia's ion).

That doesn't show me two monitors, just one that says 1/2 on, and also connecting to a separate tv doesn't work either /:
wabuf
This is beginning to sound like the problem is on the wire. See if the results differ or invert when you switch HDMI ends.
Seanlawson95
I've already tried that a bunch of times, i'll try it with a different HDMI wire when i get home and also a DVI if i can find one. the laptop and tv both have DVI slots as well as HDMI
