Adventure Map

Everyone loves adventure maps. Isn't it time to create our own?

We have enough people to create an adventure map and probably some of the most creative builders around to make it interesting.

One of the most annoying things I find about adventure maps is that most aren't built for multiplayer and requires a ton of mods. So we could make one that just requires a vanilla server.

Unfortunately, we would probably need another world to build on.

If you guys are interested, want to brainstorm some plots?

Alright how about this.

2 or so years prior, a huge war broke out between two countries, Wabufland and Coasterland (names subject to be changed). Coasterland was bombed into oblivion. The radiation and all that killed most of the population or mutated them (ie skeles, zombies, spiders, etc.)

A huge wall was erected to keep the creatures out. But lately, some new creatures have shown up (Endermen) and started to appear and slowly pick away at the wall. They were no problem since Endermen are allergic to water.

Suddenly, one day a Coasterland bomb destroys a huge section of wall, allowing the zombies and stuff spill into Wabufland.

You and your friends are government agents. Your main mission is to find where the Coasterland remnants get the bomb and remove the threat. Along the way, you repair the wall and fight your way through the wastelands and altered land with your friends.

Sounds good as a basis?

Also, we need to make a glass sea. :o

Sounds engaging and hilarious! Almost could be done by just saving our current map, duplicating it and making a 'multiple-world' portal to it. All we would have to do is turn Creepers and Enderman back on in WorldGuard, destroy the crap out of Coasterland, build a giant wall between the villages and make tons of hidden mob spawners triggered by time of day and player proximity.

Wait, glass sea you say? Done: [MC1220] 8-20 (replaces all water with glass).

Well, we shouldn't turn on creepers just yet since we don't want the map to be insta griefed, lol.

We should probably put it on peaceful for now, since TNT mines and mob spawners should be placed everywhere.

Should it be a map where you can break blocks, or one that you can't?

I think the game should start by the wrecked dividing wall and the first thing you do is fix it. From there, your group travels forward past wrecked towns and eventually get a huge city / military base where the finding of WMDs happens.

Or it could end in the End.

OKAY SO,

The general plot is that two countries are at war, Adminastra and the USMM (United States of Moderators and Members).

Adminastra is composed of two powerful city states called Wabuf and Coastercraze.

The USMM is composed of smaller lesser villages and cities.

The war starts when Wabuf and Coastercraze join together forming Adminastra. The other villages and towns, feeling threatened, banded together forming the USMM. The leader of the USMM, Zoa the Wind, declared war on Adminastra. To prepare for the war, the villages set up numerous defenses and traps.

Unfortunately, the Underwater City of Mythil, sold Adminastra the USMM's plans and Adminastra just bombed the crap out of the USMM using superior firepower.

The adventure map begins after 48 years of the bombing. Weird creatures have appeared in the land formally known as the USMM as the population was mutated. Adminastra set up a huge fortress wall, keeping the monsters out.

Two days ago, the Fortress Wall of Muggerfugger was breached and monsters started to pour into the land. You and your party are government agents, sent to find the leftover weapons of mass destruction from the former USMM and destroy them.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Alright so what this is, is we are building, not playing or roleplaying, a adventure map that we adventurally can get people to play/download in the future. Any questions or requests?

As a result, the USMM was completely destroyed.

You have a story but where is the layout/plan...

-Where do you spawn and why?

-When you spawn, are you told by signs the story or what you are meant to do immediately?

-Is the path of the story making you go from place to place solving puzzles and finding out more about the story (WMD) and the characters behind it?

-What do you spawn with?

-What are the rules for breaking blocks, etc.?

-What plugins are required for the adventure map? No falsebook?

-How will you get the mobs to spawn where you want them to?

-[insert more questions because I'm falling asleep at 1am...]

Okay, I was supposed to have a layout/plan but I have been busy with school for the past few days. :/

-Where do you spawn and why?

You spawn in the walled city (Coasterland as of now lol). It is because the city is under attack, not to mention part of the wall was destroyed by WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. All the towns people and soldiers have retreated further into the city, behind the Inner Walls. Being government agents, you and your friends' mission is to get past the enemy lines and find the WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

-When you spawn, are you told by signs the story or what you are meant to do immediately?

Signs will tell you what to do at the spawn point. You go out of the Inner Walls and search for the WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION.

-Is the path of the story making you go from place to place solving puzzles and finding out more about the story (WMD) and the characters behind it?

The path of the story is making you go from place to place and finding more about these WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION and destroying them, eliminating the threat. The characters are still in development, due to lack of time.

-What do you spawn with?

You spawn with leather armor and standard government issue iron swords. Chests and stuff along the way will provide you with the ability of upgrading weapons, along with food.

-What are the rules for breaking blocks, etc.?

No block breaking, but construction of stuff with the materials in chests and mob drops are allowed, if you find a work table. You can place torches, since most of the area doesn't have any.

-What plugins are required for the adventure map? No falsebook?

Falsebook seems like the only thing they will need to install, since we need it for mob spawning.

-How will you get the mobs to spawn where you want them to?

Falsebook, as of now.

So far, I have the desert rigged with 2 spawning devices:

Angry Wolf Spawner:
   1) 2) 3)
     [MC0271] [MC2500] [MC1200]
        20    ->    5:1    ->  AngryWolf
      PLAYER 15:5

	 1) Activates the circuit if it detects a player within a 20 block radius.
	 2) Picks up #1's charge and pulses 15 times.
	 3) 15 Angry Wolves pop out.

FYI: 'AngryWolf' spawns with the AI of unfriendly mobs (wish we could do that with cows).

Night-Only Skeleton / Zombie Spawner:
   1) 2) 3)
     [MC0271] [MC1230] [MC2500]
 	     20    ->           -> Inverter ->    5:1    -/
 	   PLAYER 10:5

   4)
     [MC1200] [MC1200]
/->   Zombie   &  Skeleton

	 1) Activates the circuit if it detects a player within a 20 block radius.
	 2) If it is night, this sign will throw off a low charge (0).
	 3) Picks up #2's charge and pulses 10 times.
	 4) 10 Zombies and 10 Skeletons pop out.
They're about half-way between the two cities--slightly closer to mine.

Are the WMDs going to be a chest full of TNT or something? Or do they only exist in player's minds?

It should be a bunch of placed TNT and the finale is you blowing up the TNT and running away from the explosion that crashes your game. XD

Either way, cool devices :o

Need to make more in some more areas. I'll do that when i have time or something.

  • 1 month later...

if this is still being worked on, I love building traps that don't use mods, which are perfect for SP maps. Some of these traps include invisible pressure plates, chest traps, and other complex (based on exploits) redstone traps. They are quite effective at killing the happy-go-lucky adventurer, and rather good at dealing with the experts as well.
